The tape is hand tearable and has a published temperature range of -40°C to +105°C.

Product Description

PET Fleece Wire Harness Tape for Automotive Interiors

Product Description

W532 is a PET fleece wire harness tape designed for flexible cable bundling, noise reduction and surface protection in automotive interior assemblies. It combines a nonwoven polyester fleece backing with a synthetic rubber pressure-sensitive adhesive.

The soft fleece surface forms a cushioning layer between the cable loom and surrounding vehicle components. This helps reduce rattling and friction noise when the harness contacts dashboards, door panels, headliners, trim parts or interior bodywork.

Unlike woven PET fabric tape, W532 prioritizes flexibility, conformability and noise damping rather than high-level abrasion protection. Its hand-tearable construction supports efficient manual application around bends, branches and irregular harness geometries.

W532 is intended for wrapping and protecting already insulated wires. W532 is designed for wrapping already insulated wires and is not specified as primary electrical insulation.

Key Features

Flexible PET Fleece Backing

The nonwoven polyester backing follows cable bends and harness branches without creating an unnecessarily rigid assembly. This makes W532 suitable for complex interior routing where harness flexibility must be maintained.

Structure-Borne Noise Reduction

The fleece surface helps reduce rattling and friction noise caused by contact between the wire loom and surrounding components. It is intended for local NVH improvement around the harness rather than general airborne sound insulation.

Hand-Tearable Manual Wrapping

W532 can be torn by hand during installation, reducing dependence on cutting tools and supporting efficient manual harness assembly.

Interior Cable Protection

The fleece backing provides a protective interface against light chafing and routine mechanical contact in passenger-compartment wiring areas. Zones exposed to greater abrasion should be evaluated with a woven PET fabric construction.

Synthetic Rubber Adhesive

The pressure-sensitive adhesive provides initial tack and adhesion between successive tape layers. Final performance depends on cable-jacket material, application tension, overlap, surface condition and thermal aging.

Typical Applications

W532 fleece wiring loom tape is intended for evaluation in:

  • Passenger-compartment wiring harnesses
  • Dashboard and instrument-panel cable looms
  • Door-panel wiring
  • Headliner cable routing
  • Trunk and interior body harnesses
  • Interior audio and electronic wiring
  • Selected industrial cable bundles requiring a soft covering
  • Harness areas where rattling and friction noise must be reduced

W532 is intended primarily for automotive interior and selected industrial cable-bundling applications. Industry-specific approval depends on the documentation available for the exact product construction.

W532 or W531: Which Wire Harness Tape Should You Choose?

Choose W532 when the main requirements are:

  • Interior noise reduction
  • Soft and conformable wrapping
  • Hand-tearable installation
  • Flexible cable routing
  • Basic bundling and surface protection

Choose woven PET fabric tape when the application requires greater tensile strength or abrasion resistance. W531a provides a thinner, hand-tearable fabric construction, while W531b provides higher tensile strength and a higher reported abrasion class.

Review the W531 PET Fabric Wire Harness Tape for mechanically more demanding cable-harness applications.

Application Guidance

Apply W532 to cable jackets that are dry and free from oil, dust and release agents. Use consistent wrapping tension and the overlap specified by the harness design.

Excessive tension may reduce harness flexibility or increase the risk of lifting at the end wrap. Greater overlap may increase coverage and local protection, but it also increases material consumption, harness diameter and stiffness.

Spot wrapping, open spiral wrapping and overlapping spiral wrapping produce different mechanical and acoustic results. The wrapping method should therefore be selected according to the harness drawing and application requirements.

For automatic or semi-automatic wrapping, confirm the required roll dimensions, unwind force, cutting method and equipment compatibility through a production trial. Roll dimensions, unwind force, cutting method and application speed can affect production performance.

Engineering Validation

Before volume approval, evaluate W532 on the actual cable bundle rather than relying only on adhesion to steel.

Recommended checks include:

  • Adhesion to the actual cable-jacket material
  • Edge lifting and flagging after thermal aging
  • Adhesive transfer
  • Cable-jacket discoloration, cracking or softening
  • Harness flexibility after wrapping
  • Abrasion at the actual harness diameter
  • Noise performance in the final assembly
  • Performance after temperature cycling
  • Manual or automated installation behavior

PVC, PE, PP and other cable-jacket materials can interact differently with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. Representative production testing is therefore recommended.

Technical FAQs

What does the +105°C temperature rating mean?

The published +105°C value is a material-selection reference. It should not be interpreted as unlimited service life at that temperature.

Engineering approval should also consider exposure duration, thermal cycling, cable-jacket compatibility, adhesive aging and the possibility of edge lifting or adhesive transfer. A short temperature excursion and continuous long-term exposure are not equivalent.

Why can PET fleece tapes with similar thicknesses provide different noise performance?

Noise damping depends on more than total tape thickness. Fleece density, fiber structure, compressibility and surface softness can all influence how the wrapped harness responds when it contacts surrounding components.

Harness diameter, wrapping overlap, installation tension and the location of the contact point can also change the result. Laboratory classifications are useful for comparison, but the completed harness should still be evaluated in its intended assembly.

How does wrapping overlap affect W532 performance?

Greater overlap places more fleece material around the cable bundle and may improve coverage at local contact points. It also increases tape consumption, harness diameter, stiffness and installation time.

There is no single overlap ratio suitable for every harness. The correct wrapping pattern should be based on the required flexibility, noise reduction, abrasion exposure and customer process specification.

How should W532 be tested on a new cable jacket?

Apply W532 to the actual cable material using the intended tension and overlap. After the required aging cycle, inspect the harness for flagging, adhesive transfer, jacket cracking, discoloration, softening and loss of flexibility.

Adhesion to steel is useful for product comparison and quality control, but it does not predict every interaction with automotive cable jackets.

When should W531 be selected instead of W532?

Select W532 where flexibility, noise reduction and hand-tearable interior wrapping are the priorities.

Select W531 PET Fabric Wire Harness Tape where woven-fabric reinforcement, higher tensile strength or greater abrasion protection is required.

Is W532 an electrical insulation tape?

W532 is intended primarily for bundling and protecting wires that already have their own insulation. It should not be used as primary electrical insulation or welded-joint insulation unless suitable dielectric data have been confirmed.
